Costa Rica

Costa Rica is a land of great diversity. From aquamarine waters that lap against pristine sandy beaches, to vast inland valleys revealing lush green savannahs, to majestic mountain slopes and stunning plateaus, down to dense tropical rain forests; Costa Rica offers you an incredible array of scenic beauty. For a country of its size, considered small by most standards, Costa Rica is truly a unique place in this world. A place in which, as a participant on UNO-COSTA RICA, you will revel in its many splendors.

SAN RAMÓN

The town of San Ramón, where UNO will conduct its summer program, is located in the Central Valley less than an hour from San José. The mountainous highland location is ideal during the summer months. This invigorating environment is just the location for a program combining academics, field trips, excursions, social life, travel, and cultural exchanges.

THE ACADEMIC PROGRAM

The core of the program is a five week stay in San Ramón, Costa Rica. In keeping with the mission of the UNO-COSTA RICA program, courses taught are those enhanced by the setting in Costa Rica and Central America. A concerted effort will be made in all courses to reinforce the classroom instruction with the rich cultural, social, historical, and ecological surroundings.

FIELD TRIPS

An integral part of the UNO-COSTA RICA program will be a number of official academic field trips that will include organized for each class by the professors and the staff.

HOME STAY

During the program, you will be housed with a local family that is part of our network. Location will be within easy walking distance to the campus. Families will guarantee a private room with a space to study. Almost all meals will be taken with the family except some meals on excursions or weekend field trips. The University of New Orleans staff works with our Costa Rica on site coordinator to ensure the comfort and safety of our participants. Host families are matched with our students according to special requirements and interests. A comprehensive housing form will be part of the program application. (For more details on housing selection criteria, please choose SAFETY INFO from the main menu).

ELIGIBILITY, ADMISSION AND SPACE AVAILABILITY

UNO students in good standing are eligible to apply to this program. Non-UNO students are invited to enroll and must meet the general admission requirements of the University of New Orleans. Since this program is limited to a total of 35 student participants, classes will be kept small to insure maximum contact between students and professors. Early application is advised in order to reserve a place on the program.

A WAITING LIST WILL BE STARTED
