Optional Weekend Field Trips:

At the trainstation - off for the weekend.

Vienna, Austria
Berlin, Germany

Nicolle with the Habsburg Palace in Vienna's Old Town.

Vienna, Austria

July 24 - July 27, 2008

Vienna is not only the capital of Austria but also one of the major art capitals in Europe. Its musical history is unmatched; more composers lived and worked in Vienna than in any other place in the world. Museums and art galleries abound, where especially the collections of early 20th century artists such as Klimt and Schiele are noteworthy. And the imperial history and grandeur of the Habsburg Empire is ever-present.

A beautiful and relaxing train ride through the landscape of Bohemia (ca. 4 hours) will bring us to Vienna Thursday night, where we will check into the Hotel Academia. Friday morning, we will embark on a guided tour of central Vienna on foot and by streetcar, including the Hofburg palace of the Habsburgs, majestic St. Stephen's cathedral, and the famed Ringstrasse, the grand boulevard of Vienna's representative buildings. In the afternoon, you will have the opportunity to visit sights pertaining to your classes, such as Mozart's Figarohaus for music, the colorful Hunderwasserhaus for art and architecture, the Literati Café Central for English and philosophy, or the Sigmund Freud Museum for the sexuality course. Friday night, we will eat dinner in a typical Viennese Heuriger inn where vintners serve locally produced wine in a rustic atmosphere. Saturday morning you may join an optional tour to Schönbrunn Palace, the summer residence of the Habsburgs. The afternoon is free to spend at your leisure before, in the evening, we will attend a concert of classical music in one of the many historic theaters of Vienna. Sunday morning is again at your disposal to spend, as you wish, with shopping, more sight-seeing, trying out one of the famous pastry shops, or visiting one of the many beautiful churches and cathedrals, before we leave for Prague in the afternoon.

The cost for this field trip is $350.00, which includes transportation (train), double accommodation (3 nights), city tour, public transit pass, a concert ticket, and some meals & entrance fees. The single supplement is $95.00 (if you wish to reserve a private hotel room).

(Prices and services included may be subject to change.)

"I am glad I went to everyone of the field trips and activities. The program is what you make it and you have to push yourself to get the most."
Jonathan Wilson, Tampa, Florida
