All events are free & open to the public!*

UNO is joining the US Department of State and the US Department of Education in celebrating International Education Week (IEW) (http://iew.state.gov) during the week of November 12 – 16, 2012. This is UNO’s 9th year to join in the national initiative.

UNO’s profile in the Greater New Orleans community has always included an international component. This component has continued to grow as members of the UNO faculty, staff, and student body have expanded international programs, events, and collaborations. These can be witnessed not only during IEW, but throughout the year, via such examples as increased course and degree offerings with an international focus, guest lecturers, cooperative research projects, study abroad programs, etc. Join us next week to celebrate this and to show that we are UNO PROUD!

  • Movie: "Crossing Borders" | PAC Nims Theater, 4:30pm
A 70-minute documentary that follows 4 Moroccan and 4 American university students as they travel through Morocco and in the process of discovering “The Other” discover themselves. The students confront the complex implications of the supposed “clash of civilizations” between Islam and the West. The relationships formed through shared experiences contrast sharply with the media-shaped views Americans and Muslims have of each other. Humor, honesty and a willingness to be challenged all bring individuals closer to each other and the relationships that develop disarm hidden stereotypes.
The Nims theater has recently been outfitted with state-of-the-art projection and sound equipment. Come not only to see the movie, but also to sample one more reason to be UNO PROUD!
