Go to the Czech Republic via UNO's Exchange Program with the ECES Program at Charles University!

Charles University is located in Prague, the capital city of the Czech Republic, and is one of the oldest universities in Central Europe. The school was founded in 1348 by the Holy Roman Emperor and King of Bohemia, Charles IV. Today the University's Faculty of Philosophy and Arts offers programs specifically designed for English speakers with concentrations in East and Central European Studies (ECES), and an extensive curriculum in Czech Studies. These programs are intended for undergraduate students, but graduate credit may also be arranged. Students begin the semester with an obligatory two-week intensive Czech language course followed by regular semester courses. Courses include Czech literature, Czech history, Bohemia in European culture and religion, Czech art and architecture, Czech film and theater, Czech musical traditions, Czech economic history, Contemporary Czech and Slovak politics, and Czech language. Other classes and tutorials are also available by special arrangement.

UNO's exchange agreement with Charles University is split between two faculties. This web page is dedicated to our exchange with the Faculty of Philosophy and Arts' Eastern and Central European Studies (ECES) Program. (Click here to go to our web page on the Facutly of Social Sciences Program at Charles University). Although the terms of the student exchange are identical, the administrative offices are separate and therefore the student application process and course availabilty are different.

All students who wish to go on this exchange must first apply and be accepted to the UNO International Student Exchange Program (see our site for Outgoing students). Once accepted, students then complete the requirements to apply to the program at Charles University.

Housing & Food:

UNO's agreement with Charles University includes a housing/meal exchange. UNO students pay the current fees for housing at Pontchartrain Hall, including the $870 meal credit. This entitles students to a shared room in a dorm at Charles University and meals in the student cafeteria.

Note: Knowledge of Czech is not required.
