Pay UNO tuition and attend courses at Salamanca.
The University of Salamanca is located in the city of Salamanca, Spain. It is the oldest university in Spain and is considered to be among the most prestigious educational institutions in Europe. It was founded in 1218 by King Alfonso IX of León to carry out academic activities similar to those being conducted at the recently founded universities in Bologna, Paris, Montpellier, and Oxford.
Throughout the following seven centuries, the University served as one of the primary intellectual and scholarly centers of Europe. Currently, the university consists of fifteen faculties, including Philology, Biology, Economics and Business, Sciences, Philosophy, Chemistry, Psychology, Pharmacy, Translation and Documentation, Medicine, Fine Arts, Social Sciences, Law, Education, Geography and History.

Since its founding, the University of Salamanca has had illustrious jurists, scientists, doctors, and writers among its professors and students. Their work comprises the school's most valuable heritage. The University keeps the memory of some of them alive by linking their names to the ancient lecture halls of the Historical Building, with its world famous Plateresque façade, which provides not only the best example of this architectural style, but also a symbolic key to the relationship between the University, the monarchy, and the papacy.
Famous names associated with the University include Elio Antonio de Nebrija, author of the first grammar of a vulgate language, printed in Salamanca in 1492, and Christopher Columbus, who discussed his projects with the scholars of Salamanca.
In recent years, the university has been undergoing renovations and reforms that have increased its already high prestige among Spanish institutions of higher learning. Currently, about 38,000 students are enrolled in the school.
