Cork Writers' Retreat


June 19 - July 21, 2018

Ireland: rich with literary history and waiting for you. Join us in Cork this summer for an inspiring summer of culture and creativity in Ireland's "real capital. It's time. What are you waiting for?

  • Push your creative work to new levels with themed writing workshops and writing seminars with local authors. Some writing sessions will be held in local pubs as we soak up the atmosphere.

  • Immerse yourself in all the art you can handle at the Cork Midsummer Festival, one of Ireland's premier exhibitions of theatre, literature, art, and dance. The festival takes place our first week in Cork!

  • Engage with other participants, guest authors, and local writers during readings and community events.

  • Learn about the publishing industry and make valuable professional contacts as you submit your manuscript to our visiting literary agent.

  • Experience the historic beauty of Dublin, Ireland's enchanting capital city on our optional weekend excursion.

  • And let's not forget the music--we'll let you know the best places to hear everything from iconic Irish music sessions to the latest singer-songwriters.

  • All daily activities are optional, with plenty of time left over for individual writing and exploration.


The Cork Writers' Retreat runs June 19 to July 21, 2018. The cost includes housing, meals on class days, study abroad insurance, and all program activities. Participants wishing to attend the half-session (June 20 - July 7), may do so for a reduced cost.


Here's how to apply:

*Cork Writers' Retreat participants and guests should follow regular application procedures, but select the Postgrad/Companion option from the dropdown menu.*

All Students:

1. Apply online.

2. Upload your digital photo (please be sure it is like an ID photo - head shot with plain, light-colored background).

3. Upload a scan of the title page of your passport (if you do not have a passport, apply for one now, and let us know).

4. Fill out and submit your Medical History Form.

5. Download our Study Abroad Checklist for a reminder of what you'll need to remember (you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to open this document)


Non UNO Students:

1. Complete steps 1-6 above.

2. Fill out and submit the Immunization Compliance Form (note: you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to open this document).

* Please note that while you are welcome to, you do not need to apply to the Low Residency MFA Program to attend the Writing Workshops in Cork. For more information about writing degrees at the University of New Orleans, please visit
